For lack of better words, the last few weeks have been a dumpster fire. An evolving global pandemic that will be forever immortalized as one of the biggest crisis the world has ever witnessed. COVID-19 has proven to be one of the world’s most intense adversaries crippling entire countries, shutting down major cities, and impacting the global economy all while overcrowding our hospitals, shutting down businesses and thousands of lives lost worldwide.
The world has managed to stop and life as we know has been forever altered. Weddings postponed, births with no visitors, and funerals limiting mourners to 20 or less. Gyms, rec centers, theaters, salons all closing their doors leaving many small businesses and those self-employed fearful as to what we will happen next.
However with all the woes of the world surrounding us, I find myself completely in awe of the courage and perseverance I’ve seen around me. As each day of uncertainty greets us, I am inspired by those who find the faith to remain positive and the strength to create a world for others that mirrors some sense of normalcy. From the parents who have now become educators and to the educators who are tirelessly working to create a virtual space of learning available for every student. Or the medical professionals working selflessness toward the care for others putting their own self on the front line of harm daily. The truck drivers, the grocery store associates, store managers and all of those who work to stock the shelves to meet the demands of the public for food and essential items.
In spite of all the turmoil Coronavirus has called, it has remarkably brought out the best in all of us. Families are spending more time together. Neighborhoods are becoming more connected and the idea of community is being restored. More time is being spent outdoors, hobbies are being discovered, and appreciation for the simple things is making its way into the hearts of each of us.
For once the world took a much needed time out. And in spite of all of the pain it has caused, I’d like to believe we needed that time out too.
