Recently I was in the grocery store with my 4 year old daughter and as I wiped down the shopping cart and squeezed a glob of hand sanitizer in her little hands she randomly yelled out:
“Mommy…I am so SICK of the coronavirus!“
And if I’m completely honest at that moment: I could not have agreed more.
COVID-19 has impacted us all. Either you, a loved one or someone you know has had the virus. Maybe or your job was affected or eliminated due to COVID. Or more so recently if you have children then you probably at some point mulled over the idea of a safe return to the classroom through either virtual learning or the modified school day .
It’s been a tough few months filled with virtual baby showers , cancelled vacations, and curbside pick up. And unfortunately it doesn’t seem like Sister Rona has any plans to pack up and leave soon either.
Living in a world where coronavirus exists, snag may wonder how do we carry on with life as we did pre-Covid?
We’ve sense discovered that prolonged isolation isn’t healthy. But we also know that with a highly contagious virus floating around, widespread assembly isn’t either.
“Covid Fatigue” is a real and the stress can damage your psyche causing anger, irritability, paranoia, and even depression.
That’s why it’s super important to try and attempt to find some normalcy in life again for both our health and well being . There is definitely some benefit in modifying our lives for a safer approach to our hobbies and social habits.
But if you find yourself down in the dumps lately thanks to the Rona check out these 5 ways to help bring you out of your funk:
1. Stay Connected
Though social distancing is our new reality, don’t let it be the reason to keep you disconnected to those around you. Take advantage of modern technology through FaceTime, Skype, Zoom, House Party, etc to stay connected. In a world where we’d rather text than call, take this opportunity to be more present and intentional with your communication. I’m sure Grandma would much rather see your sweet face next time when you call to check in.
2. Let it Go
I don’t know about you but this pandemic has definitely reduced my need for retail therapy. My social calendar over the last few months has been pretty much non-existent which has significantly decreased my spending. However now isn’t the time to hoard. Take inventory of both your home and closet and pay close attention as to what is not being used, what no longer fits, and what won’t really be missed. Grab a few boxes to declutter and let some stuff go
3. Explore a new hobby
With way more time being spent at home, take the opportunity to research new hobbies and interests you never had the time to either do or try. Might as well come out of this pandemic with a positive new skill learned right?
4. Take a day trip or quick getaway
Maybe your annual summer vacation or trip abroad got cancelled this year. However don’t allow COVID-19 fo make you a prisoner in your own home. Take the opportunity to switch it up with a change of scenery by taking a drive somewhere new. Not quite comfortable with staying in a hotel or vacation rental just yet? Check out a local beach, lake, national park/ monument , etc. near you to just spend the day. Just grab your mask and go!
5. Read More
One thing that I know I have really taken advantage of is reading a lot more while in quarantine. With the halt in film and reality tv production, I no longer have the same excuses I once had due to distraction. Reading is fundamental so if you’ve never been an avid reader, now might be the time to give it a shot. And if turning the pages of an actual book isn’t really your thing, audiobooks is always an option.
